Thurso FC Preview - from Iain Grant
Thurso were idle for a second successive week after their game on Saturday were called off. Freezing overnight temperatures made Sir Georges Park more suited to curling than soccer and put paid to their Port Services Cup tie with Golspie Sutherland.
The quarter-final tussle has been rescheduled for tomorrow week.
Thurso tomorrow will face the league’s form side Muir of Ord Rovers.
After a low-key start to the campaign, additions to the squad have helped Rovers go on a long, unbeaten sequence which has taken them past Halkirk into second spot.
“It will be a tough test for us,” said the manager. “It was quite close down there but both teams will have made quite a few changes since then. “We’ve definitely got stronger but they will have improved as well.”
Vikings duo Michael Petrie and Gavin Bremner, who both played in that 4-2 defeat, are both struggling to be fit with back and ankle injuries respectively.
Thurso are set to welcome Greg Shearer, who has just been released from Wick Academy.
The young midfielder-cum-defender will make his debut if he manages to shake off the effects of ‘flu. Jamie MacKenzie is also set to return. The game has a 1.30 p.m. kick-off
The only North Caley game to survive on Saturday was the MSIS League match between Balintore and Tain Thistle.
Scott McKain’s bagged a treble in the home side’s 5-2 win, which
cemented their fourth place and took them just three points shy of Halkirk.
Graham Davis and John Skinner (penalty) completed their scoresheet with Aaron Christie and Darren Goller on target for Thistle.
