Yesterday afternoon was an important day in The MSIS North Caledonian League championship race and Alness United now look like favourites as they travelled north to Sir George's Park in Thurso and came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a David Chapman goal.
Reigning champions Golspie Sutherland also slipped up as they were defeated 3-1 away at Seaboard Park against cup specialists Balintore.
At the top, Alness United now have a 13 point lead, move on to the 45 point mark, having played 4 more games than Thurso in second place on 32 points and Golspie in third who are on the 31 point mark.
There were other movements in the table as Dornoch won 4-2 at home to Bonar Bridge and leap-frogged Bonar Bridge and Halkirk United into mid-table. Invergordon moved on to the 14 point mark in 8th position (having only played 12 games so far) with a hard fought 1-0 win at home to Tain St.Duthus, with a late goal.
The match at Helmsdale between Bunillidh Thistle and Halkirk United was called off.
News of next weeks fixtures to follow once I get them.
